There is a growing trend over the last several years to expand our definition of "loved ones" when considering caregiving. States like Connecticut and employers such as MassMutual include anyone you love as someone who may give care to you or you for them -- for example, best friends, neighbors who are like family, college roommates. This is particularly important as we consider that the number of "family caregivers" is dropping precipitously.
